The calm after the storm in Zermatt

8th Dec 2011

It now feels like winter is with us after a good dump of snow this week.  For the last few days I have been over in Zermatt working with Ken, Dot, Drew and Di.  It was a good choice for their early season ski trip with plenty of terrain for us to explore.

Depsite the stormy conditions and high winds at the beginning of the week Zermatt did a great job of keeping the lifts open, meaning that we could ski on Gornergrat, Klein Matterhorn and Rothorn.  The weather was a little "Scottish" at times but this team are used to that!  The Gornergrat train even got hit by a little avalanche whilst we were on it - a heart stopping moment.

Then the storm cleared on Thursday morning giving us magical powdery conditions in Cervinina and underneath the Matterhorn.  A great end to the week.  With a little bit of "speed" practice in the deep powder they were all leaving great tracks behind them.
