Chamonix Off-Piste and Ski Mountain Skills

1st Feb 2013

This is the second year that we have run this course and it was great to see some of the same faces returning for more.  The course consists of 2 days working on technique for off-piste skiing with myself and 2 days skiing with IFMGA Mountain Guide Rob Jarvis developing safe travel skills.  We then round the week off with a day with both of us.

This week we had some great conditions for working of all of these skills, sampling most of the snow conditions that the off-piste can throw at us.  On Monday we skied light fluffy powder at Les Houches.  On Tuesday the group skied in St Gervais.  Wednesday it was off to Les Grands Montets were the snow pack had changed significantly due to the warmer temperatures; great for practicing icy and bumpy (the glass is always half full!).  On Thursday the group headed to Les Contamines for a fantastic ski tour with Rob and IFMGA Mountain Guide James Thacker.  As predicted the snow conditions were slightly "crusty" but the views were great.

Today we finished off by skiing in Courmayeur where the snow / rain limit was high enough that we could still enjoy some powder whilst escaping the gale force winds.

There are some pictures from the week here.

We have 2 places left on the next course running 25th Feb till 1st March.
