Zumsteinspitz 4563m

8th Apr 2013

I am wondering when spring will be coming and it doesn't look like it will be this week.  However we managed to make the most of the good weather this weekend and get in some good altitude training for the Mezzalama race.  I went round to Gressoney, Italy with friends Liz and Chris.  We skinned up to the Gnifetti Hut, stopped for an essential coffee and headed on up to Pyramid Vincent 4215m .  Just before the junction for those heading to the Lisjoch we were overtaken by a man in lycra.  It was no bad thing that he over took as there was no track to Pyramid Vincent ...

After a superb 5 course Italian meal and a good night's sleep we headed back up towards the Lisjoch.  Our first summit was Zumsteinspitz, with a lovely little airy arete leading to the summit.  Then we went across to Signalkuppe and the Margherita Hut, the highest hut in Europe.  Now for the best bit, after the 50m skin back up to the Lisjoch we head 3000m of downhill all the way back to Gressoney!
