Avalanche Training

Over the last few days I have been skiing in Tignes.  We went there for some avalanche training with French Mountain Guide and avalanche expert Alain Duclos.

We went down for a ski on Sunday, a day ahead of the course, to make the most of the fantastic early season conditions that they are having.  The pistes were in excellent condition right from the top of Grande Motte all the way back down to Val Claret.   In some areas the off-piste had filled in well for this time of year, but you still had to be very careful of rocks.

Monday and Tuesday were spent with Alain both on the mountain and in the classroom.  The days were incredibly informative to all of the guides and instructors that took part.  It was a very interesting course that contested many conventional ideas about avalanche theory.  We all went home with plenty to digest ...
