Skimo Training

23rd Nov 2013

I have spent the last couple of days coaching Janine Frost who will be racing in the World Cup for Ski Mountaineering this coming season, as part of the British Team.

Janine has dedicated an awful lot of time into training to improve her uphill fitness and has results to show for it.  This session was to give her some ideas and technical input so that she can go away and train to improve her downhill skiing in the same way.

We enjoyed lovely conditions at Thyon, just up the road from Sion, somewhere that I hadn't skied before.  There was quite a lot of artificial snow which made the pistes icy in places, but that proved to be an ideal training ground.

Janine's performance improved a lot over the 2 days.  She managed to record a speed 38 metres per minute quicker than her altimetre had previously read!  I look forward to following Janine's, and the rest of the British Ski Mountaineering's Team progress over the coming season.
