Chamonix Off Piste & Ski Mountain Skills

28th Feb 2014

It felt like we experienced all 4 seasons (and all the snow types that go with this) during our last Chamonix Off Piste and Mountain Skills course.  The course began with a spring like day on the Vallée Blanche and a skin across to Italy.  Normally this day would come later on in the course, but with the forecast showing snow later in the week it seemed like a good idea to take advantage of the clear visibility.

Throughout the week the group skied at Les Houches and Les Grands Montets in order to develop their off-piste skiing skills.  We were lucky (although some may disagree) to experience all the different types on snow that you might find when venturing off-piste, including the heavier more challenging snow.

We then headed back through to Italy for some touring on Punta Croce.  The final day was spent on the Petite Croise Baulet above Combloux, which was ideal given the fresh snow and poor visibility.  It kept snowing all day and there was fantastic powder between 1500m and 2000m.  It definitely felt like winter had returned.

One aspect of this course that the clients really enjoyed was coming home to the delicious home cooking at Ski Breezy.  It works well for us too as it means we know the group will return well rested for the next day's skiing.  Photos from the week can be seen here and on the High Mountain Guides page.

We still have 3 places left on the course running 31st March - 4th April.

"Just completed the above course in Chamonix, great time with just the right mix of ski instruction with touring / skiing 'on the hill'.  Best course I have done and has given me the confidence to start trying a few tours and off-piste runs.  Skied in a variety of conditions and snow types but plenty of untracked powder!"  Tim Cashmore
