BASI Level 4 European Mountain Safety Course

15th Mar 2014

Over the past week I have been down in La Grave working for BASI on the Level 4 European Mountain Security Course.  This is a course that all instructors coming through the BASI scheme need to complete in order to gain their Level 4 International Ski Teacher Diploma.  The module consists of a 4 day training course, followed by a completing minimum of 6 logged tours, then a 3 day assessment.  Currently the assessments are all held in La Grave.

It really did feel like spring had arrived with temperatures of 15 degrees in the village.  However the strong wind on Wednesday meant that they lift was shut for the day.  Over the week we toured in a variety of places including Le Gros Tete, Crete de Cote Plaine, Col du Galibier and Pic Blanc du Galibier.  We were still able to find cold powdery snow on the north facing slopes, and there was beginning to be some good spring snow on southerly aspects.

Congratulations to all the students that passed this week.  There are a few photos here.
