Eagle Ski Club

Eagle Ski Club

This is a Ski Performance for Mountaineers run specifically for members of the Eagle Ski Club. It is run to exactly the same format and with the same philosophy as "Ski Performance for Mountaineers" but brings together members of the club so that not only can you work on your ski technique but future touring partners can also be met.

You will be given simple yet effective tools to ski ice, bumps, powder, chopped up powder and whatever other snow we come across in the off-piste. You will come away with tactics to ski smoothly through the trees and tight spaces, and feel more confident on the steep and icy. Skiing crust will become fun as you’ll be able to be effective in it. And not forgetting gaining the skills to float effortlessly through the powder.

To develop all these skills we will need to spend time on the piste to acquire the techniques but we will quickly put it into practice in the off-piste.

Included in this course is an informal avalanche lecture on the Monday evening with IFMGA Mountain Guide Neil Johnson. This will focus on the current avalanche hazards to give you increased skills and confidence for exploring the area outside the times of the course.

Chamonix Off-Piste Day

You can spend the Friday with IFGMA Mountain Guide Neil Johnson. The day with Neil gives you the opportunity to put all your instruction in to practice in the mountain environment. This gives a fantastic climax to the course being able to go a litte further afield exploring some of the off-piste that Chamonix has to offer.

Pre-requisites

The most important pre-requisite for this course is that you are keen to try new things and prepared to have a go. Ideally you will have put in some mileage in the off-piste and be able to "cope" in the majority of off-piste conditions (but in no particular style!) and be keen to improve on efficiency and effectiveness. If you are not sure if its the course for you email giving more details of what you have done.

The Eagle Ski Club have a grading system and this course would appeal to S1 - S3 skiers.

There will be 1 group aimed at S1 - S2 skiers, and another aimed at S3 skiers.

You need to have a transceiver, shovel and probe for this course. These can be hired in Chamonix.

For this course you need to be a member of the Eagle Ski Club. Click here to join.

Testimonials

All in all the week's skiing was wonderful- the variety of lessons, skiing on our own and the guide was brilliant and hopefully now I realise what to do to ski better- legs wide apart finally made sense on the last day, particularly when I speeded up and saw the stability of it!! So thanks for being such an enthusiastic instructor and making the holiday feel like we were all a group of friends!! Zoe Proctor

Thanks even more for you enthusiastic and very effective instruction. I know any instruction is going to have to build on what’s gone before but the week with you was simply the best all round ski instruction I’ve experienced and I’ve probably bored the non-skiers around me senseless with my talk about it. Jonathan Woodhouse

I know that I learnt more in those four days than I had in the last twenty years thanks to Alison's infectious enthusiasm, knowledge and talent as a teacher. I will certainly be returning. Graham Fuller

I'm coming on the course again because I had such a good time last time, and I've still got a lot to learn. You are an excellent teacher but there was also a vibrant social aspect to the course. Jim Hall
