Chamonix Ski Weekend Forecast

30th Dec 2011

Seeing the amount of snow that I have just cleared off the drive it seems that as  much snow fell last night as did the night before.  With the avalanche risk back at 5/5, more snow forecast throughout the day and strong winds high up it appears that the pre-Christmas storms have returned with full force.

All the resorts are on stand-by at the moment and it is recommended not to drive unless you have to. Keep an eye on what opens for the moment.  Les Houches will be the most likely to open and can be an excellent option in conditions like this.  This year we have been so fortunate to have somewhere like this in the Chamonix Valley giving a bad weather option when everywhere else is closed.

With the freezing level due to rise to 1700m the snow will turn to rain at Les Houches so if it opens get up there early to make the most of the snowy conditions before they change.

The weather is very similar through in Courmayeur today.

The weather is due to improve slightly tomorrow afternoon so you could spend today getting your powder skis waxed for then?  The trees at Les Grands Montets (Tabé and Plan Roujon Chairlifts) might be the best place to head if they open.

Have a good weekend.
