The season begins ...
Normally I'd be in Chamonix to see the transition from autumn into winter, but after being away in Nepal during November it was a rather abrupt start to winter when I returned to Chamonix (and drive clearing) on Monday.
This week I have been out skinning at Megève and Les Houches. With the lifts not yet open there is plenty of powder to enjoy without many people around. Sometimes the snow has been so deep that you can't actually get up much speed on the descents!
Les Houches and Les Grands Montets will be opening this weekend. For Les Houches this is 2 weeks ahead of schedule. From what we saw today it looks like the pistes will be in excellent condition for this time of year. This weekend I'll be out skiing with the other BASI Mountain Safety Trainers as we get together for our trainers conference.
Off Piste Performance is featured in "Outdoor Fitness" magazines Christmas issue giving some ideas for pre ski holiday exercises. There is a link to the article and exercises in the latest Off Piste Performance newsletter which you can sign up to here http://eepurl.com/lzyU1
Enjoy the snow!
